Amsterdam - The Netherlands

We arrived in Amsterdam via train. Travelling on a train is so relaxing and the European countryside is very picturesque.

Fritz and mayo, a dutch delight

Our first night in Amsterdam was a Saturday night so we decided to go on our first European pub crawl. There were free shots everywhere. The tour guides poured them into our mouths as soon as we got in to each place. It was a fun night and we got a free T-shirt - always a win.

Out and about

The next morning we did a free walking tour called Sandeman's new Amsterdam. Sandeman's does free walking tours in most major cities throughout Europe and you decide at the end if you would like to tip the guide. Our tour guide Cornelia was so great and we learnt so much about the city of Amsterdam. Some of the highlights included being in the headquarters of the famous Dutch East India company, kinda cool, and taste testing some amazing Dutch cheese. We also got to see the smallest/most narrow house in all of Amsterdam.

Croquets...a dutch speciality
Although Amsterdam was built on a swamp, it was such a beautiful and clean city. The people were all so friendly!

After the tour we had lunch at a cafe and ate a dutch meal called stampott. Pretty much a huge meatball on top of some potato/carrot mash. It was so so good.

That night we wandered through the red light district and then went to the 'Moulin Rouge' sex show. When in Amsterdam. Haha!

On our last day we went to the Anne Frank house. I haven't read the book so I probably would have gotten more out of it if I had. However, it was still really good to see. Then I ventured by myself to the Van Gogh museum. The museum was awesome, I recommend it to all!

 I really loved Amsterdam.
